One might see pictures of girls at the 2007 prom with the curly hair style that
looked horrible, or the girl who tried to straighten her curls and was left with
a big frizzy mess. To avoid such catastrophes this prom season here are some
tips.
- The first thing to remember is to make your
curls look the best before you even begin to style an updo. Use a hair
product that will define your curls as well as maintaining your hair soft and
manageable. Apply the product evenly throughout the base of your
scalp to the tips to ensure coverage and to control frizz.
- Dry hair completely. Defuse your curls to get
the desired curl then let it air dry while you apply your make up.
Follow up with the diffuser again to make sure your hair is dry and
ensure the curl doesn’t relax too much. Gravity has been known to relax
curl. Give you hair a little boost with the diffuser just before you
put it up if you want to enhance your curls.
- Up-Do’s: Bobby pins are a great way to
achieve most any style. Ensure the closest match to the color of your
hair. Also, there are different sizes for each hair density and the
heavier pin should match a heavier hair. When inserting the bobby pin, place
under the hair showing as little of the pin as possible.
- Have your illustration of your selected curly
hairlstyle for reference throughout the process.
- When working with curly hair, try not to over
manipulate. If you pull your curls apart too much, the end result will
require additional curling iron attention for a finished look.
It’s always fun to do hair with friends! So,
get a group of your friends together, have a slumber party and practice, but
most important, have fun! It might take a couple of attempts to get it right but
make sure you take a picture of your hairstyle and write down the “how to’s“.
So, the night of the dance your style will be easy to duplicate.
Learn how to create the "Twist
back", a gorgeous prom style for curly hair!
We can see the evidence of the popularity of curls at the recent Golden Globe
Awards. There were many celebrities sporting curls at this years gala event.
A lot of celebrities are wearing the French twist lightly curled in an updo. It
is simple, yet elegant style. It looks like celebs are taking their straight
hair and adding a little flare with curls. Shoulder-length, naturally beautiful
curls with bangs make anyone a star for night.
Make sure that you stylist uses the right hair cutting technique when
cutting your curly hair. It's important to cut the hair in a way that creates
the right amount of volume without the frizzies. It is also very important to go
to the right salon and to a stylist who is experienced in working with curly
hair.
To create a sassy hairstyle, simply wash hair and towel dry or use a diffuser.
Once the hair is almost dry use a moisturizing product that is not too
heavy and run fingers through hair to add more volume. Let hair air dry and
style as desired with your fingers. If you use a brush or comb you may add too
much frizz.
Rollers, such as hot rollers, Velcro or
self-adhering ones, are the in-thing these days. Use unheated rollers on damp
hair. Wait for the hair to be barely damp, roll up rollers, keeping broadest
ones at the top. Let the hair dry and then unwind rollers carefully.
In case of hot rollers, allow the rollers to cool. Now gently remove them. With
the help of your fingers, gently comb your hair to open the curls slightly. This
will give a more bouncy and curly look. Lastly add a small measure of hair or
finishing spray and you are ready with that sexy style!
Prom Hairstyles and Curly Locks
A good hairstyle combines the wavy locks of the
hairstyle with a swept fringe with curled out tips. The long, curly locks are
easy to create with proper rollers or a big barrel tong and the swept fringe can
be created with some styling gel. This is a great option for long hairstyles for
the prom.
You should give your curls a hot oil treatment
every 2-3 weeks to add moisture to the hair. It is especially necessary to do
this during the colder months where hair can become dry and brittle. You'll find
that your curls will be more revived and manageable. Love your curls and
they'll love you back!
Straightening Curly Hair
Thick and curly hair can be sensually
straightened bit. After shampooing, conditioning and towel-drying hair,
you’ll find that the process of straightening couldn’t be easier:
-
Apply straightening gel to damp hair, and comb
it through. Detangle, as necessary.
-
Section the hair, pinning it atop the head.
Blow-dry from the bottom layers inward, gently pulling on each section
with your brush to straighten it.
-
Repeat for all sections of hair, saving the
top for last.
-
After hair is dry, apply a small amount of
silicone, and brush hair to enhance shine.
-
Use a flat iron for finishing.
I have seen many pictures all showed silky smooth
and noticeably shiny straight hair, as opposed to the before pictures that
showed very curly, frizzy or downright unmanageable looking hair.
