Planning Steps
The first step is selecting a perfect prom
hairstyle is to choose a hairstyle that fits your look. Usually you chose a
hairstyle to match your prom dress and apparel but sometimes, when you already
have a perfect hairstyle chosen, you chose your prom dress to match your
hairstyle. For the latter, the job is easier since the perfect prom hairstyle
has already been selected. For those who have not, it is a good idea to find
your dress and other apparel early so that you can find a matching prom
hairstyle.
1. Select a few prom hairstyles that you think
will look perfect on you.
2. Spend a couple of weekends dressing up with
different hairstyle to see which one looks perfect.
3. Select an alternate prom hairstyle just in
case
Maintenance Steps
The next step for great prom hairstyles is
MAINTENANCE which usually begins after selecting your prom hairstyle till prom
day. Taking care of our hair includes many factors like using hydrating
shampoos and conditioners, keeping hair out of extreme conditions, and just
eating right foods that keep hair healthy. There are an abundance of steps
here and we will list a few of the main ones.
Maintaining your perfect
prom hairstyles
People always want to have
shiny, bouncy and healthy hair. For that, it is necessary to take proper care
of hair. There are some unconventional methods that you can try to nourish
your hair and to prevent damage.
1. Keep perfect hair length consistent with
regular visits to your hair professional for washes and trims. Regular
trimming is necessary to keep the ends of hair soft, smooth and thick. The
last couple of inches of hair become raggedy and thin if you do not trim them
regularly. Trimming also keeps the shape of hair. As hair grows unevenly, any
hairstyle can go from chic to shaggy after two or three months. Small trims
every 2-3 months are sufficient to keep the hair in shape.
2. Keep good care of hair with use of hair care
products; for those with colored hair, use products that keep the color intact
and do not wash them out. Avoid shampooing daily if you have dull hair.
Volumizing and thickening shampoos are harmful for fine, thin hair. It is
safer not to use hair accessories with metal contents. As tap water leaves
mineral deposits on hair, it is better to use distilled water as the final
rinse while washing hair. Using wooden or cellulose acetate combs instead of
plastic combs is good for hair. Boar bristles hairbrush is also good for hair.
Using satin pillowcase can help you prevent damage to your hair from tossing
and turning. Use protein treatment once a week if your hair has damage
4. Keep your hair out of extreme conditions.
You expose your hair to environmental damage when you wear it down. Wind and
the dust particles in the air can damage your hair. Wearing up the hair will
prevent such damage. You should try to wear your hair up at least half the
time.
5. An important step many people forget is that
hair grows and proper eating helps keep hair healthy. Hair grows every month.
Taking vitamins supplements may speed up the normal growth rate. You should
first take a multivitamin that fulfills all the needs of the body. Then you
can think of extra nutrition for hair. The useful elements for perfect hair
include B complex, zinc, iron, flax seed oil, black currant seed oil, kelp,
silica, biotin, folic acid and pantothenic acid. You can also take an amino
acids complex to be extra sure.
6. Regular massaging of the scalp helps in
getting stronger and thicker hair. It also helps the hair to grow faster. It
stimulates the blood supply in the scalp. The blood provides nutrients to the
follicles. Moreover, it also reduces stress. Massaging only for 5 minutes
daily can give wonderful results. You need to be careful while
massaging.
Last Minute Steps
As it gets closer and closer to prom day, it is
important to make sure you are ready. These LAST MINUTE steps will help
make sure that you are prepared for any situation that may arise and help
prevent prom day hairstyle disasters.
Last minute preparations for
perfect prom hairstyles
1. If you are going to a salon make sure your
stylist is not too booked to spend quality time on your hair.
2. Wear a button up shirt when getting your
hairstyle done so no shirt has to be taken off over your perfect hair do
3. Three weeks before prom, keep an emergency
kit of hairstyling items you might need including accessories, pins,
hairsprays, curling irons, and everything you can think of.
Avoiding The Frizz From Ruining Your Perfect Prom Hair
DO NOT wash you hair daily
Although you may feel that your hair will be
dirty if you don't wash it every morning while you shower, others are very
unlikely to notice. Only greasy hair will show signs of being unwashed after
one day and frizzy hair is rarely greasy. On the contrary, the fact that
you're stripping away your hair's natural oils is the most likely cause of
your frizz problem. Leave your hair for 3-4 days between washes.
DO use conditioner
Try to find a moisturizing conditioner and use
it after every wash. It's really worth paying a little extra for a good
quality conditioner and if you can't afford both a good shampoo and a good
conditioner, put the extra money into the conditioner.
DO give your hair an intensive hot oil
treatment
About once every third wash (if you're sticking
to the 3-4 day washing guide), use a leave-in intensive conditioner on your
hair. This will help replace any natural oils that your hair has lost due to
the abrasive cleaners in shampoo and your hair being exposed to the elements
(sun, wind etc).
DO NOT use chemicals on your hair
Those who are unhappy with their hair have a
tendency to color it and use all sorts of other chemicals in a vain hope of
somehow making it look better. The truth is, these chemicals are just adding
to your problem. If your hair has a tendency to frizz, keep away from
unnecessary chemical products.
DO NOT expose your hair to the elements
Sun and wind will both dry your hair causing
excessive frizzing. Try to wear a scarf or hat to cover your hair whenever
you're in the sun and especially if you know you're going to be spending a lot
of time outdoors. A scarf will also protect against wind damage. You might
also consider buying hair products that protect against UV rays.
DO have your hair cut regularly
Those with frizzy hair will probably be happier
with a short style but whatever you choose, it's important you visit your
hairdresser regularly as split ends will only add to the problem.
DO try to keep your hair dry
Damp air leads to frizz. Unfortunately, we
can't always ensure that our hair will stay dry but if you think it might
rain, carry an umbrella. There are some really funky looking brollies around
these days so they won't cramp your style.
DO NOT use heated styling tools
Hair dryers, straightening irons and curling
tongs all damage the hair and should be avoided as much as possible. If you
MUST use them, always use a protective product on your hair beforehand. If
you're uncertain of the kind of product you'd need, ask your hairdresser for
advice.
DO use anti-frizz products
Products such as frizz-ease aren't just another
way of getting you to part with your money. Although they'll never completely
eliminate the problem, they really do help decrease it. However, it's
important that you stick with the other tips, too. Using anti-frizz products
alone simply isn't enough.
If you follow this step you will be well on
your way to a perfect prom hair day.
