Renting a Limo For Prom
The biggest mistake you can make when
shopping for a prom limo is to based your search and final decision on price alone.
There are many limousine companies in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut with
various prices and of course quality of service. Many times a cheaper
price will result in a bigger risk for you
and your friends of being left stranded on prom night. This is because old, poorly maintained, and dirty vehicles,
unprofessional chauffeurs are all common in the limousine business and the chance
of being late are just a few examples of cheapest price shopping experience.
To be prudent in your research, you at least need
to know that all limousines are
required to carry
commercial
insurance and
proper permits for each state that they operate on. Meaning that if you rent a
New Jersey limo for your New York Prom, your limo driver might get stop in New
York and get tow because although the limo company is legal to operate in New
Jersey or Connecticut it might not have the proper permits to operate in New
York City which results in you and your friends showing up to your prom in a
yellow taxi. So ask to see these
papers.
Companies who belong to industry
associations usually must abide by
special insurance regulations and
service rules. Reputable
associations include the National
Limousine Association (NLA) and
the local livery association. Check
with the Better Business Bureau
to research complaints about the
company.
Ask for a copy of your contract
and get everything in writing.
Make sure your contract covers
the exact type of limo you
rented, along with hourly limo rental
time, travel distance, specific
directions to your home and all
locations traveling, tipping,
minimum limo rental time, and number
of passengers.
You still have to pay for the limousine while
you are at the prom and those
hours need to be included in your
rental agreement or you might get
stuck with finding a way home
from the prom.
Prom Limousine Rental Charges and Time
Minimum booking times are usually 8 hours and can extend to 10
hours during peak seasons, such as
prom night. It is important that you check when your rental time begins. Most
companies begin rental time at
your designated pick up time and pick up location. If you say,
“Pick us up at 5:00 p.m. at 656 West Street,” then this will be the
beginning
of your prom limousine rental time.
Some companies begin limousine rental time on when they leave their office
garage and call it “travel time.” Get in writing specifically how they
charge. Travel time is usual in
rural areas where the closest limo service may be 60
miles away.
Get specific directions for all points of
travel. Type up and give the directions to
them to avoid delays on your part.
Prom Limo Rental Tip
The standard tip when renting a New York
Limousine is 20% of the contract price. The same usually applies to Limousine
companies in New Jersey and Connecticut. And yes you do have to tip. It is
included in the total price in your contract but this doesn't mean that you
can't negotiate the tip or even the whole hourly rate for that matter. Make sure you are not
tipping twice. If you book early you have a lot of leverage in negotiations. If
you book late in the season, you'll be lucky to find a willing limo rental for
your specific prom night.
Limousine Service
Rental Contract
Take your parents with you
to
discuss with your parents. Also you will need to pay with a credit card or bring
the cash to the limousine service office. The limo
will not be reserved until the signed
contract has been received and payment has been made.
Keep
copies of all contracts.
Responsibility of all
guests riding in the
limousine will go to the
renter. This includes
damage done to the
limousine.
Most contracts are not responsible for
late arrival caused by acts of nature,
traffic delays, incorrect pick-up or drop-
off information, and any other situation
beyond their control.
Underage drinking is
never allowed under
any circumstances.
If you don't do your home work, here is what
could happen; Your limo does not show up
and you miss your prom, it shows up late
causing you to miss prom activities, you don’t get the limo wanted, you chauffeur is
unprofessional, the limo gets involved
into an accident and does insurance to cover the
damages to you and your friends, the limo breaks down and you have to
call someone to pick you up.
